Day 1: Arrival in Sofia
Arrival in Sofia, capital and largest city of Bulgaria. Transfer to hotel.
Overnight in SOFIA.
Day 2: Sofia (B,L,D)
Breakfast. Morning sightseeing tour of Sofia. See the unique mixture of ancient, medieval and more recent examples of architecture: the gold domed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Crypt – a precious museum of Orthodox Art, 4th century AD St. Sophia Church, 4th c. AD St. George Rotanda, 11th century AD church of St. Petka of the Saddlers. Lunch. Afternoon visit of UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage listed Boyana church with astonishing 13th century AD frescoes, one of the most complete and perfectly preserved monuments of east European Medieval art, located at the foot of Mountain Vitosha. Continue with visit of the National Museum of History. Dinner and overnight in SOFIA.
Day 3: Sofia – Veliko Tarnovo (B,L,D)
Breakfast. Early morning departure to Veliko Tarnovo, the medieval Bulgarian capital. Arrival in Veliko Tarnovo. Lunch at local restaurant. Sightseeing tour of the city, visit Tsarevets Holy Hill, 9th century AD church of St. 40 Martyrs, church of St. Peter and Pavel. Dinner and overnight in VELIKO TARNOVO.
Day 4: Veliko Tarnovo – Etara – Kazanlak – Plovdiv (B,L,D)
Breakfast. Departure to Kazanlak, situated in the middle of the Valley of Roses. En route – visit Etara Open-air museum and the Russian Memorial Cathedral of Shipka. Arrival in Kazanluk. Lunch and visits to the Rose museum , the Historical Museum and the famous 4th century BC Thracian Tomb, included in UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage. Continue to Plovdiv.
Dinner and overnight in PLOVDIV.
Day 5: Plovdiv – Bachkovo – Plovdiv (B,L,D)
Breakfast. Morning sightseeing tour of Plovdiv, a city that is a thousand years older than Sofia with picturesque and well-conserved houses of the National Revival Period of 18-19th century AD. Visit the Old Quarter: Ethnographic Museum, 2nd century AD Roman Amphitheatre, and 4th century AD St.St. Konstantine & Helena Church. Lunch at local restaurant in the Old Quarter. Afternoon departure to visit the famous 11th century AD Bachkovo Monastery. A few kilometers from Plovdiv, it is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria famous for its original architecture and icons. Return to Plovdiv. Dinner and overnight in PLOVDIV.
Day 6: Plovdiv – Rila Monastery – Sofia (B,L,D)
Breakfast. Early morning departure to Rila Monastery dating back from the 10th century AD. The Bulgarian Sanctuary is one of the most important centers of the Orthodox Church, included in UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List. Situated in the heart of the highest mountain – the magnificent Rila, it is also the most beautiful example of religious architecture with frescoes created by the best artists of the National Revival period. Here you can see the Hrelyo Tower from the 14th century and the Blessed Virgin Church. Lunch at local restaurant near the monastery. Continue to Sofia. Dinner and overnight in SOFIA.
Day 7: Departure (B)
Breakfast. Transfer to Sofia Airport according the flight schedule. Have a safe flight back home!
